Chard is taprooted, so transplant promptly or direct-sow. Easy-to-grow and drought-tolerant vegetable will produce best when well-prepared soil and good drainage allow its roots to go deep. Prepare bed well and add compost. Harvest for baby greens by cutting young outer leaves, or for cooking when 10" tall, or cut plant 2" from soil and new will regrow.
