Medium in both size (5 ft) and yield, but doesn't need full sun to do it.
This is a big breakthrough, because virtually all grains need full sun all day to be productive, even if the weather is hotter than they like.
You can give this one shade to cool it off, or use a space that otherwise could not grow grain.
BOTANICAL NAME : X triticosecale
Sow in cool weather; stands heat fairly well. Dig under when 9" tall if used a green manure. Does well in most soils not too acidic/alkaline. If growing as a grain plant seed 5" apart & let mature over a 4-6 month period. Harvest when heads are dry and golden. Its grains are nutritious and its stalks good for the compost pile's all-important carbon.
