Fungi are an essential part of your soil's ecosystem; they form a subterranean mat in the soil that actually helps distributes nutrients around the garden. Permaculture experts now expect that this mycelial mat will intentionally spread nutrients beyond their normal distribution to needy parts in your garden. One of the downsides of annual gardening is disturbing the soil and thus partially destroying this mycelial mat.
This mycelial mat does other good things as well. It uses its ability to change the soil chemistry to make good minerals more available and bad minerals less available. There is also evidence that they help prevent diseases in other ways.
While there are thousands of myceliae and mushrooms, what we offer are some of the best tasting edible mushrooms as a kit. These are all lab quality kits from Fungi Perfecti who have been satisfying customers for over 20 years. Some of these mushroom kits are meant to be spread into your garden soil directly onto wood chips or straw (and produce are delicious crop of mushrooms eventually). Other kits are indoor kits that provide a crop of mushrooms, and when they are finished you are encouraged to add the remains to your garden soil or compost heap, also adding to the mycelial mat.
PLEASE NOTE: if ordering for gifts, note that these are living items and must be opened very soon after delivery! Please specify, in our "shipping instructions" box, the date they should be delivered.
