European heirloom bred for winter growth and resistance to the rots and mildew that wet weather can bring. Very vigorous seed. Good choice for cold frames. 300 seeds.

Lactuca sativa
AAS 1942. A light-green, extra-early looseleaf lettuce. Long, wavy leaves stand up well to rain and wet. Fairly large and slow to bolt, will not get bitter in heat. Leaves are easily harvested. 300 seeds.

Lactuca sativa
A sweet flavored lettuce. Its heads are large, heavy, compact, very dark-green and about 9-10” high. A Romaine with dense crunchy hearts like an iceberg. Much used for Autumn sowing. Slow to bolt. The most frost hardy lettuce. 300 seeds.

Lettuce, Bronze Arrow, Looseleaf

Lactuca sativa
A rare, long-standing heirloom leaf lettuce that has it all. We feel it is one of the best lettuces in the world. Will stay fresh and tasty at marketable size for about three weeks even in hot weather. Overwintered through a snowy winter in Willits (zone 8). Can be grown as a cut and come again variety. One of our gardeners took seven heads off each of her plants one summer. Oak-leaf shaped, bronze-red leaves are tops for appearance and sweet flavor. Sorry, short supply this year; we can only give 100 seeds per packet.

A mix of lettuces and other salad greens with various colors and shapes. Plant one packet and harvest a salad! Often planted very densely and cut down all at once for baby greens. Or plant a wider spacing for mature plants. Most will regrow after cutting.

In my childhood this was a wild plant I delighted in finding and always ate greedily. Very tender juicy leaves with a very mild, buttery flavor. An excellent Winter crop rich in Vitamin C. Adapts well to greenhouses, or extra-early spring sowing. Eat entire plant, stems, flowers, and all. 200 seeds.
