SEED PACKET INSTRUCTION: Start seeds in flats. Transplant seedlings 4" apart. Will grow best in a fairly rich loam with adequate potassium, phophorus, but not oo much nitrogen. Does not flourish in clay. Soil must be kept moist. Keep young onions weeded, as they don't like to compete. Get an early start in the season for the best bulb formation.
BOTANICAL NAME: Allium cepa
DESCRIPTION: Lunga di Firenzr, Italian, Early Red Long spindle-shaped bulbs, averaging one pound. Purple-red skin and light-red flesh with a mild, sweet flavor. Wonderful for salad and raw slices, and chefs love it for braising.
Needs intermediate day length. It is a poor keeper due to its sweetness. Long-time farmers market favorite, and a favorite at our Willits garden.
