Related to pears and apples, tougher and more adaptable than either. Tolerant of difficult soils and wet feet. Fragrant frutis make pies and jelly; many people feel a quince or two added to apple pie gives it an even better flavor. The pale yellow flesh turns red when cooked and in Spain and France it is cooked further to make a thick paste like a fruit "leather" that is absolutely delicious and eaten for a snack or dessert. Fruit is are hard like an apple and fuzzy like a peach. 20 seeds. C
