Latin name: Sambucus canandensis GB Cultural info: Hardy to Zone 3 / Ht 12' / Matures 3 years Seed code: C Seeds per pkt: 20
Description: Small tree/large shrub produces loads of tasty berries famous for pies and wine. Nice background for the garden, or to create privacy without shading out your vegetables. Large glossy pinnate leaves frame dinner-plate size clusters of tiny white edible flowers with a scent of honey. Berries are very small but for picking you can just cut the large clusters and strip them off in the kitchen, or boil them stems and all for jelly and wine. Many medicinal uses, from teething babies (give them a stick to chew) to coughs and colds. Anti-oxidant. Likes a moisture. Will grow in the shade of other trees or a house as long as it gets some light. Quick-growing.
