A food and forage plant from Africa, heat tolerant and water-efficient. Grown like corn but hardier and may be perennial in low-frost zones. The grain is gluten-free and is used like polenta. Under some wet conditions, fresh sorghum leaves can develop toxicity to cloven-hoofed animals. When made into silage or dried for hay, the toxins go away. The grain is excellent for beer making. Huge plants make lots of compost.
