These are a different species from other beans and will grow and bear in cooler weather, even coastal fog. The pods are delicious when eaten young. Mature pods can be shelled like green limas. So in-demand as an ornamental climber that some gardeners don't even know it's a vegetable. Edible flowers attract hummingbirds.
The young pods are boiled, steamed, sauteed, baked, etc. Immature pods are used as shelled beans. Ripe dried seeds can be used like kidney beans. The flowers are eaten in salads. The young leaves are a potherb.
