PACKET INSTRUCTIONS: Start seeds in flats or direct sow into good garden soil. Stake and string around the edges and criss-crossing the center of the bed will help prevent the plants from falling over as the pods mature. When plants are dry, cut and thresh promptly to avoid shattering. If weather is wet, pull plants and dry under cover.
BOTANICAL NAME: Raphanus sativus var. oleiferus
This type of radish was breed seeds with high oil content, which can be pressed for oil. In addition the extra long taproots break up and aerate the soil while drawing up nutrients for the following crops. After harvesting the seeds, there will be plenty of material remaining for the compost pile or fodder.
If growing for seed - Plant is hardy to 25F, but seeds should be harvested before cold weather sets in and damages them.
Big juicy roots are easy to harvest and animals love them. They are hardy in zones 6-9 as a winter crop. Large roots with large green leaves can be pulled as needed for sheep, chickens, cows, rabbits, and goats.
