PACKET INSTRUCTIONS: Sow in flats on 1" centers after all danger of frost is past. Transplant when the second set of leaves appear to 12" centers in garden. Be careful to not overly disturb roots when transplanting (or direct-sow in garden at final spacing). The bitter soapy seed coating must be washed off before eating - you could use a blender, sieve or agitate water in a bowl, changing the water until it no longer foams.
BOTANICAL NAME: Chenopodium quinoa
DESCRIPTION: Huge, extremely productive plants to 7 feet with excellent eating quality. This is another variety from the Altiplano that has adapted well to conditions here. Both the plants and the grain itself have a variety of hues. Grain is deep red, black, chocolate brown, buff and white, and the plants are various shades of red, orange, green. Grown for us by Carol Cox.
