Okra is grown much like corn, though it prefers that Southern moist heat, but will bear anywhere you can grow tomatoes and even through light fall frosts. Disease resistant & needs little care. In short season areas, it will need indoor start 2-4 weeks before planting out into warm, settled weather (but best grown if you can direct seed). The pods are ideal for soups, stews, fried, and in curries or gumbos. The ripe seeds are parched and used instead of Coffee.
