Melons are a tropical plant - this is a challenge for gardeners who live in climates which are not hot. Melons do not like cool temperatures or even prolonged cloudiness. Start indoors or under cover one month before planting out in warm, settled weather. The seeds need 80 degrees for germination. You can sow outdoors once the weather is warm. Needs plenty of water until fruit sets, then only give it enough to prevent wilting. Our melon varieties are chosen for great flavor and their ability to adapt to less-than-perfect conditions. We have a separate listing for watermelons.
