Lima beans need warm soil and warm weather. Inoculate for best yield (SIN-9400). Produces large flat pods. Harvest and shell the beans green for a summer treat or wait until they are dry when you can shell them for storage and use as dry beans.
Fresh and dried beans are a good vegetable, sprouted, or used in soups, stews, etc. Dried beans are fermented into a form of tempeh. Young pods are eaten whole as a vegetable. Leaves make an edible but bitter potherb.
