We offer four lettuce mixes for variety as well as for smaller gardens where space is limited: A bolt-resistant mix for the hot season - these are our varieties that are least likely to bolt, and we do have some amazingly bolt-resistant varieties; our heirloom mix has as many varieties that we carry as possible (we feel that all of our varieties are heirloom quality) possibly including some varieties not listed in our catalog; Four Leaf Lettuce Mix limits the mix to four great varieties, usually including Bronze Arrow; our Nouvelle Cuisine Mix embodies the concept of mesclun, where a number of salad greens are added to a mix of our lettuces.
The actual mix depends on what we have on hand, and may include varieties that we might not otherwise be offering. We include as many varieties as possible that fill their role well.
Quick growth makes for good flavor and tenderness, so assure water and fertility. Likes a moderately good, loose well-drained soil. Water regularly. Lettuce seed doesn’t germinate when the temperature reaches 85 degrees. In summer heat, sow in the evening, water well, and give some shade. To reset the seed put in airtight jar in refrigerator for 4 days.
