Stephen Harrod Buhner, 2013, 416 pp.
The format of this book will be familiar to readers of his previous book, Herbal Antibiotics, 2nd Ed. First he scares the pants off you by pointing out how ineffective western medicine has become in either preventing or curing viral infections. Steven then gives you a thorough, but remarkably understandable story of how herbal antivirals work, and why they are so much more effective than pharmaceuticals. The real meat is a short list of the real herbal antivirals, maybe a dozen in all. Buhner goes into great detail on each of these - everything from cultivation to any possible side-effects with other drugs (almost never). Nearly all of these herbs are readily available, and many are significantly invasive (read low-maintenance). There are some good food plants here as well.
"Protect Yourself with Natural Treatments for Viral Infections. Viruses are smart, mutating and becoming resistant to antiviral pharmaceuticals. Global crises such as SARS and dengue fever spread more quickly than we can develop medicines to fight them, and every season there are new flu strains that challenge the effectiveness of vaccines.... Build your immunity and protect yourself with broad-spectrum herbal treatments. Stephen Harrod Buhner profiles the plants that have proven most effective in fighting viral infections and provides in-depth instructions for preparing and using formulations to address the most common infections and to strengthen your immunity, safely and naturally."
