GROWING INSTRUCTIONS: May be started in flats or pots, but chard is taprooted, so transplant promptly or direct-sow. Will produce best when well-prepared soil and good drainage allow its roots to go deep. Prepare bed well and add compost. In 2 months, or when plants are 12-18" tall, begin gently pulling off the outer leaves and new leaves will form, or cut plant 2" from soil and new will regrow. Can live a long time, appreciates a top-dressing of compost or manure midseason.
