Easily grown in average garden soil with not many stones which cause deformities and splitting. Prefers full sun, light soil, and pH 5.5-6.8. Shorter varieties will cope better with clay or rocks. Keep soil moist. Deep, loose, and fertile sandy loams and peat soils with good moisture-holding capacity grow the straightest and smoothest roots. Mulch to retain moisture, to speed germination and to block the sun from the roots. Medicinal: de-toxifier, supports liver, kidneys, diuretic, eyes, etc.
Plant every 2-3 weeks for a constant supply. Avoid Do not allow the seed-bed to dry out. If you have heavy soil, cover the seed with compost, sand or even vermiculite to make emergence easier. Keep weeded.
You may leave mature carrots in the soil for storage if the ground will not freeze. Carrots can be stored in tubs of moist sand for winter use.
