PACKET INSTRUCTIONS: Start in flats in early Spring or late Summer for Fall planting. Transplant in the garden 5" apart when 2-3" high. Prefers a dry soil that isn't too acid. Likes some P & K but modest N. Water moderately; cease watering when 85% of seed heads are golden. Dry fully before threshing/storing. This is a 6-rowed variety with awns.
BOTANICAL NAME: Hordeum vulgare
DESCRIPTION: It can be planted Spring or Fall except in very cold climates. A standard 6-row spring variety, that is well adapted to most conditions. This is a good barley (or grain) to start with, if you are just dipping your toes into grain growing. The seeds are dark in color, but will become more of a deep brown when dried than actually purple.
