Keep soil moist until seedlings are established, but after that water sparingly. Does best under dry, warm conditions. Harvest the seed-heads when they are dry and seeds have just began to fall. The dried harvest can be threshed and winnowed by hand - strip seeds from stalks into a bucket and use wind or a fan for winnowing.
